Sunday November 25, 2007Noone has actually asked this question, but I feel like its something worth knowing:)
Recently during the unemployment thing, I find myself in a constant position to be fed by others. That may sound great, but the calories quickly add up and I find everyone "wanting me to eat something." Mostly my experience has been breakfast, so I've created a strategy...

Posted: November 25, 2007 Wednesday November 21, 2007Josh needs to know, "What's a fun night out on a Monday?"
Well, given this unemployment thing, I have had more opportunity to dabble in Monday nights out on the town. This past Monday I was at the bar by 6. For those of you who know working me, that's unheard of.

Posted: November 21, 2007 Monday November 19, 2007John needs to know, "What is there to do in NYC if the theatre strike continues?"
Well John, that's a loaded question and I mean no disrespect to the theatre, but I keep pretty busy and happy in NYC 365 days a year with little to no theatre, so I think I have a few ideas.

Well Sarah, this isn't the most exciting Saturday night, but it felt pretty fun to me. We had a "budget" night so we went to movie & some dim sum.

Well, I must say that last night we went to Beppe and it was really yummy, so it was a great treat to get to be taken there, but it will definintely be worth returning to, when I find a new job.

Well HA HA Matt, I guess you don't need weekends during unemployment but they still exist and this time it started today, Friday. I kicked it off in style and on a budget....but once again these are things you can do when you have a job too.

Posted: November 16, 2007 Thursday November 15, 2007Gina needs to know, "What's a big night out for the unemployed?"
Well being unemployed may sound sad, but you forget its sad when you get to hobnob with high society. Last night Wendy Goodman's new book about Toni Duquette was honored by Bergdorff Goodman. I don't think any relationship to Wendy Goodman, but who knows. Not only was it a big night but Bergdorff's dedicated their windows to the book and they were spectacular. This book was also exclusively featured in the December (last issue) of House & Garden...what that meant for me was...

Posted: November 15, 2007 Michelle needs to know, "What does Vanessa know about unemployment?"
Well Michelle, unforunately I now know unemployment. A very sad thing happened on November 5, they closed House & Garden magazine after over 100 years (see last letter www.houseandgarden.com ). With that, we no longer have jobs. So, vanessaknows needs a job--if you have any leads.
Everyone says there are better things ahead. Given this, I think I've found the silver lining, more time to write vanessaknows. With that being said, I've had many adventures and interviews. Some good food, (thanks to friends and some low budget).
I'm going to take advantage of this time and do some periodic updates with tips, ideas and adventures of the unemployed. Mostly my own, but maybe some friends will share too. You can also use these ideas if you are employed, only its just called a day off.

Posted: November 15, 2007 Barrie needs to know, "What do you know about Gramercy Tavern?"
Well Barrie, Gramercy Tavern is spectacular. Chef Michael Anthony is one of the nicest and most talented chefs in NYC and all of the other countries I've had the privilege to eat in.
I can say that if you are looking for an unbelievable meal...do it at Gramercy. We ate in the Tavern room in front but literally stuffed ourselves to the gill. From the spicy sweet cashews and almonds at the bar to the outstanding bottle of Syrah, every detail was exceptional. We enjoyed more courses than we should have eaten but I'll try to share as many details as I can possibly taste and remember.
